Hey [First Name],
Most funded traders didn't blow their challenge on a bad trade. They blew it on a good one — one they sized too big, held too long, or chased after a stop-out.
That's the trap. And there's a way out of it.
The mindset shift nobody talks about
A prop firm challenge isn't a trading competition. It's a risk management demonstration. Your job isn't to make money — it's to prove you won't lose theirs.
That changes everything about how you should approach it.
Start smaller than you think you need to
If you're trading a $100K challenge, treat it like a $25K account. Here's why:
The daily drawdown limit is usually 4–5%. One bad day at full size ends your run before it starts.
At 25% of your normal size, you can absorb four full daily losses before you're in danger. That's enough room to shake off bad sessions without it mattering.
Most evaluations don't fail on time pressure — they fail on blowups. Slow is smooth.
The consistency rule that separates funded traders from everyone else
Traders who pass challenges don't size up after winners. They pick a risk percentage — usually 0.5–1% per trade — and hold that line for the entire evaluation. No revenge sizing. No "I need to make back yesterday" sessions.
Why? Because prop firms track consistency. Spiking to 5x your normal size on day 9 to hit the profit target fast? Their risk team notices — even if the trade works.
Build in a drawdown buffer
Every challenge has a max drawdown — typically 8–10% total, 4–5% daily. Create your own hard stop 2% above that limit. If the max daily drawdown is 5%, your personal cutoff is 3%. Hit 3%? You're done for the day. No exceptions, no "just one more setup."
That invisible 2% cushion has saved more challenges than any edge ever has.
Before you start your next challenge, lock in these four things:
1. Risk per trade ≤ 1% of account
2. Daily loss limit set as a hard stop in your platform
3. Profit target broken into a daily or weekly pace goal so you're not sprinting at the end
4. Trading only during the sessions where your win rate is actually positive
The traders who get funded fastest aren't the most aggressive — they're the most consistent. Boring works.
